Article VII: Elections

Section 1: Nominations

Nominations for Chapter offices shall commence at the regular Chapter meeting two (2) weeks prior to the election of officers, and shall remain open for each office or seat until that position has been filled. Any Active member may nominate a candidate for Chapter office. Pledges may only be nominated by Active members for the Chapter offices of Secretary, Vice President of Communication, Parliamentarian and Historian.  Pledges will not be permitted to vote for a Pledge that is nominated for office, as voting privileges are reserved for Active members. In order for a nomination for Chapter office to be valid, it must be seconded by an Active member and the suggested candidate must accept the nomination. Any candidate for Chapter office who at the time of officer transitions fails to meet the criteria for eligibility given in Article III, Section 1, Clause 2, shall be disqualified and voting shall be reopened as stated in Article I, Section 3, Clause 6 of these Bylaws.

Section 2: Balloting Procedure

All officer elections shall be conducted by secret ballot following a period of time in which each candidate presents their goals to the Chapter. Pledges may participate in the discussion of candidates, but are not permitted to vote, as voting privileges are permitted only to Active members. A majority of votes is necessary to win. If no candidate attains a majority in a race with three (3) or more candidates, the candidate(s) in last place shall be eliminated and a run-off election shall be held between those remaining. If an election ends in a tie between all candidates, the vote shall be retaken; if the vote ends in such a tie a second time, the winner shall be decided by the vote of the Chapter President.

Section 3: Elections’ Timing

The start of elections shall be decided by the President. The date must be at least four (4) meetings prior to the date of Initiation.
